Down in County Kilkenny in the south of Ireland sits the small, good value and good quality three star Rhu Glenn country club hotel, just outside the town of Waterford.
With 31 en-suite rooms, we found the hotel quiet, comfortable and welcoming.
Off the large reception is a large bar area which serves bar meals and hosts live music on some evenings, a small restaurant and breakfast room. Unfortunately on the night of our stay, the live music didn’t start until around 11:00 – 11:30 and while we could faintly hear it from our room, we were a little too weary to sit up into the wee hours. they did sound quite lively though- maybe next time!
Breakfast was ample with both cold buffet items and cooked items available on order, and the evening meal was superbly delivered – the only slight grumble was that the bar menu seemed to have a more extensive selection of main meals, but the restaurant rules prevented a choice from the bar menu – gone are the days of the catering for whatever the customer needs.
The rooms (all ground floor) were comfortable, perhaps in need of a little TLC in places, but completely satisfactory in all other aspects. We had an accessible room which was
close to the reception and was nicely equipped. The rooms were fairly well equipped although again, trouble with the TV remote batteries – why do hotel staff not routinely check the functionality of such items while preparing the room?
The hotel is well placed for local activities such as golf and sightseeing, and of course Waterford with its many attractions is on the doorstep. Connections are good, with the motorway and Waterford airport within easy reach.
All in all, a nice stay, well placed for touring this part of Ireland and we would have no concerns about staying with the Rhu Glenn again in the future.
We stayed in the Rhu Glenn Hotel in May, 2019.
