Last year during a visit to my friend Joe Vodehnal in the Czech Republic we came up with the crazy idea of me coming over to Czech Republic again and the both of us driving to Germany to visit Colditz Castle. I had memories of the castle from my childhood days, and Joe had passed the area many times but never stopped to visit. We were both interested to see it and thus a plan was drawn up. But rather than escaping, we would be ‘breaking in’! Continue reading “Review: Germany tour 2017: Escape TO Colditz”

Day trip to Dolní…

Dolní Lánov to be precise; another lovely (but short) stay with my friend Joe and his wife Renata, at their beautiful chalet style home in the small village of Dolní Lánov, nestled a few km east of the town of Vrchlabi in the Czech Republic. And of course their son Tom, who is always a pleasure to talk to.

Review: Premature ejection at Scampton!
As promised, here is my review of the “inaugural” Scampton Airshow 2017. Now I might be completely off track, but I’m guessing that Scampton picked up the gauntlet when Waddington Airshow pulled the plug. Which should be a blessing; I had never been to an airshow before until we saw the advert for Waddington back in 2014, and spent a thoroughly enjoyable day with my brother and some of our children. So it wasn’t surprising that when I saw the advertisement for Scampton, I was eager to attend again.
Review: Whittlebury Hall & Spa
On our way to Poole recently, we decided to take a one night stay at Whittlebury Hall and Spa, situated in the little village of Whittlebury, Near Towcester, and a couple of miles from Silverstone race circuit.
Review: Holiday Inn Express, Poole.
Well, I seriously considered not writing this post as we are now well and truly committed to using Holiday Inn Express. No doubt people will disagree, but we have used a number of their hotels now, and have found the offering to be consistent in terms of room expectations, room quality, staff quality and value for money (good) and HIE poole was no different in this respect. So what can I add? But then I thought, I’ve written a review for every other HIE we’ve stayed at, why does this group of excellent, hard working staff deserve any less?
Review: Holiday Inn Express – Southampton West
This is probably more of a mini-review of the hotel; being IHG credit card holders we use Holiday Inn Express a lot now, we get various perks and discounts during our stay (including discounted room rates if you book on the IHG website).

Review: Fort D’Auvergne Hotel, Jersey
In July 2017 we took a small break to Jersey in the Channel Islands to celebrate Sue’s mmmthieth birthday. This trip had been prompted by two reward tickets with Flybe, which we had accumulated on our Flybe credit card (see our credit card post for more information). But when we came to book our hotel via my favourite website Booking.com, finding an hotel was a different matter! After much searching, we came upon this little gem nestled directly on the beach. Perfect? Read on. Continue reading “Review: Fort D’Auvergne Hotel, Jersey”

Ok, so as promised (admittedly a little too late for Easter) here are a selection of a few of the places you could consider for your next bank holiday outing… Continue reading “Bank Holiday Outings…”
Pick of the week: Erik’s bar, Lanzarote.
People watching our facebook page back in February would have come to the conclusion that we spend most of the time on holiday eating! And in Costa Teguise, a good portion of our food and beverage intake was partaken at Erik’s Cafe Bar, Av. Jablillo. Continue reading “Pick of the week: Erik’s bar, Lanzarote.”
